Novels for ILA

We will be starting our first novel for ILA soon!  We will have class sets of books to use at school but if you want to annotate (take notes) or highlight anything in the book then you need to buy your own copy.  You will also not be allowed to take the books home with you, so if you want to read at home then you also need to purchase your own copy.

Agenda 9/27-10/1

Objectives for the Week:
The students will be reviewing and identifying figurative language through the reading and writing of poetry.  They will be utilizing the writing process to compose their own original poems about school and will focus on figurative language elements.  The students will apply active reading strategies.  They will gather sources and paraphrase information during a research project on singer/songwriters.  They will learn about valid and reliable sources as well as how to properly use MLA citations.

Agenda 9/20 - 9/24

Objectives this week: The students will apply active reading strategies including summarizing, paraphrasing, making inferences using text evidence, and asking questions.  They will analyze the effects of author's choices on figurative language such as metaphors, similes, hyperbole, and personification.  They students will determine the meaning of words through affixes and will use the dictionary/glossary/thesaurus to help.  The students will continue to use capitalization and punctuation correctly.

ON LEVEL UPDATE!
Since the computers were not cooperating today during class, you will NOT have to turn in your imaginative story until Thursday, September 16th.  Make sure that you meet with your partner either before or after school in the computer lab or library so that you can finish typing your story!
